Who I am

The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive. (Albert Einstein)

I’m Jon Evans. I was born in the UK. I moved to Costa Rica over 10 years ago and I live near San Isidro del General, Perez Zeledón with my wife and two children. My first language is English; I speak and write Spanish fluently. My day begins when the sky first turns light at around 5:30am.

What do I do?

I divide my time between four primary areas of work:

  1. WordPress website design and webmastery
  2. Online marketing and search engine optimisation (SEO)
  3. Data science and stastical analysis
  4. Spanish to English written translations

At different times in my life I have done more or less of each of these. I designed my first website in 1999 while at the University of Bath studying for Mathematical Sciences degree. I think it said, “Radiohead” in big red letters, which at the time was my favourite music band. I began translating while teaching English in San Jose between 2002 and 2006. My data analysis career began in the fraud prevention department of a bank and continues now with clients in the UK rail industry. My role in an affiliate marketing company that promotes brands in a highly competitive niche has been largely about on-site SEO but has included some outreach and social networking too.

Above all, I am passionately curious. But I am also driven by creating value for the people I work with. In every venture I am involved in, the key question is: “What is the core value in this business and how can I best contribute?” The answer determines the project specification.
